Why it
Matters

1 IN 9 PEOPLE, OR 815 MILLION, ARE HUNGRY!

THAT’S ALMOST 200 TIMES THE POPULATION OF NEW ZEALAND. THE MAJORITY LIVE IN ISOLATED AREAS WHERE ACCESS TO BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS IS DENIED.

Everyday, people struggle to feed their children a nutritious and balanced meal. In a world where we produce enough food to feed everyone, too many still go to bed on an empty stomach each night.

Hunger is more than a lack of food. Even those with severely undernourished populations have a surplus of raw food. The problem occurs because one third is wasted during inefficient production or is not used to feed the hungry.

THE WORLD PRODUCES 20% MORE FOOD THAN REQUIRED.

For example, India has the second highest number of undernourished people in the world yet produces a food surplus of 210 kcal (15% of their daily need), per person, per day.

HUNGER SHOULDN’T TO EXIST IN TODAY’S WORLD.

IT’S THE HUNGRY THEMSELVES WHO ARE THE KEY TO ENDING HUNGER.
