My Challenge

Where have all the oats gone?

Its day 25 and disaster has struck. I have well and truly ran out of oats, all gone, done and dusted Which means no milk for my tea. That’s right, I’m back to a week of no caffeinated beverages – send help!
How Claudia I hear you say. How could you have let this happen?
Because my friends, I hit the tea too hard at the beginning of the week and didn’t ration myself so I’ve ran out of oats. So not only can I not have breakfast for the next couple of days (porridge has been my go too, and by porridge I mean oats and hot water) but more importantly I can’t have any cups of tea! I am not impressed with my lack of self-control at the beginning of the week and I don’t know what to do, it’s too early in the day for me to have lunch and I just really really want a cup of tea… and I cant. Well, I could have it black. But that’s just not the same, is it?
I wish I had more oats, well actually if I’m wishing for stuff I wish that I would also have enough money in my budget for some cheap coffee. But that’s not going to happen.
Honestly having a cup of tea is my only pleasure right now. It’s a little cup of joy that I look forward to in the day. Doing the Live Below The Line challenge means my meals are no longer well-crafted delicious treats. Its more just a process I’m going through just to provide sustenance to my day rather than experimenting and trying out new recipes and making exciting food, which is something I usually look forward to.
I guess this is the point though isn’t it. So many people are living below the poverty line and if you run out of something that’s it, you can’t just go and get more as and when you need it. Even something so simple as not being able to have a hot beverage until my next shopping trip has made me realise how lucky I am that day-to-day I can enjoy things like tea and coffee without a second thought and really should have rationed it out, let alone making sure that I actually have enough food to last throughout the week. Hopefully next week I will learn from this weeks mistakes and think about what Fridays Claudia might want as opposed to just Mondays Claudia.

I am fundraising for The Hunger Project.

We are living in a very crazy time at the moment and as a result  many people  are suddenly finding themselves struggling financially. Round the world finding enough money to  feed yourself and your family is an everyday challenge. Even here in the UK people are finding that they are now living below the poverty line because of Covid-19. I want to raise awareness of the struggle to eat comfortably on £1 a day by taking part in the Live below the line challenge. I will spent less than £1 a day on food and drink for as long as the UK is in full lockdown, whether that be three weeks, three months or longer

What impact will your donation have?

£25 could fund functional adult literacy training for two women so that they can learn to read and write.

£30 could provide one woman with a microfinance loan and financial literacy training so she can start a small business, earn an income and support her family.

£65 could train a local volunteer leader who will educate mothers about the importance of pre-natal care to ensure their babies are delivered safely.

£125 could train one Elected Woman in India to be an effective local council member and ban child marriage in her community.

Every pound counts! I know that the current financial situation is difficult but Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
